Better Hair Care Starts With Understanding.
Caring for your child's hair between appointments should not feel like guesswork. The Parent Resource Center brings together practical hair care guidance, professional product recommendations, helpful tools, and the things I want parents to understand about caring for their child's hair at home.
What Can I Help You With?
You do not need to know your child's porosity, curl classification, or the name of every ingredient in a product to start making better hair care decisions. Start with what you are noticing.
Dryness & Moisture
Your child's hair feels dry again shortly after moisturizing or seems difficult to keep soft and manageable.
Explore GuidanceTangling & Matting
Hair tangles quickly, mats between wash days, or becomes increasingly difficult to separate and detangle.

You are noticing short pieces, thinning areas, fragile ends, or hair that seems unable to retain length.
Explore GuidanceWash Day
You need help creating a manageable routine for cleansing, conditioning, detangling, drying, and preparing the hair.

You want to maintain braids, twists, locs, or another protective style while managing the scalp, buildup, frizz, and nighttime care.

You need a better way to protect your child's hair overnight and reduce unnecessary tangling, friction, and morning maintenance.

Your child struggles with detangling, touch, sound, blow drying, sitting, transitions, or longer grooming sessions.
Explore GuidanceProducts I Use, Trust & Recommend.
There is no single product that works for every child's hair. These recommendations are based on products and tools I use professionally, have experience with, or feel comfortable recommending for particular hair care needs. As this library grows, each recommendation will explain why I like it, what I would use it for, and what you should know before adding it to your child's routine.

Build a Routine With Intention.
These are products and tools I actually use, have experience with, or feel comfortable recommending based on the hair care needs I see behind the chair. Use the filters to narrow the library by what you are working on at home.
FHI Heat UNbrush Flex Detangling Brush
This is one of those tools that can make detangling feel a lot less aggressive when it is used correctly and the hair is worked in sections.
A brush still should not be forced through badly tangled hair. Start at the ends and work your way up.
Wide Tooth Detangling Combs
I like having a simple wide tooth comb available for section by section detangling and for hair that does not need a brush.
Use it with enough slip and do not start at the root when the ends are tangled.
Kitsch Elastic Hair Tie Cutter Tool
This is useful when I need to remove small elastics without pulling them back through the hair or fighting with them.
Take your time around the hair. The goal is to cut the elastic, not the strands wrapped around it.
Quick Hair Beader Set
A beader makes adding beads much faster and easier, especially when you are working with several braids.
Make sure the bead opening fits the braid and avoid forcing too much hair through at once.
TASALON Microfiber Hair Towels
Microfiber towels are handy for removing excess water without all the rough rubbing that can make wash day harder.
Blot and squeeze the hair instead of aggressively rubbing it back and forth.
Auban Extra Large Adjustable Shower Caps
These are useful when you need to keep a finished style dry during bath or shower time.
The larger size gives more room for braids, ponytails and other styles without smashing everything down.
Portable Kids Shampoo Basin
I used a basin like this with my own child before The Tressing Room, and it helped inspire the setup I now use for some of my smaller clients.
It can make washing little ones easier when a regular sink setup is awkward or uncomfortable.
Teyssor Fine Mist Spray Bottles
I like a fine mist when I want controlled water application without soaking the entire head.
A spray bottle is a tool, not a moisture routine by itself. What you apply and what the hair needs still matter.
IVARYSS Satin Scrunchies
Satin scrunchies are a gentler option when hair needs to be loosely gathered without the same friction as some traditional hair ties.
They are especially useful for loose nighttime gathering when a tight hold is not necessary.
SUPER+ Continuous Fine Mist Spray Bottles
This is another fine mist option I like for evenly dampening sections when I need water during hair care or styling.
You usually do not need to drench the hair. Start with a little and add more only when needed.
African Pride Moisture Miracle Pre Shampoo Hair Detangler
This is one of my favorite products when the hair needs some extra help with detangling before wash day really gets started. It gives the hair a lot of slip, which can make it easier to work through tangles without doing a bunch of unnecessary pulling.
This is a pre shampoo product, so it needs to be rinsed out. It is not a leave in product or a replacement for conditioner.
Red by Kiss Detangling Blow Dryer Styling Pik
I like this attachment for stretching and smoothing hair during blow drying once the hair has already been properly detangled.
I do not use the blow dryer attachment as a substitute for detangling badly tangled hair first.
Joico Moisture Recovery Routine
This is a line I reach for when the hair needs a more moisture focused wash day and I want the routine to feel conditioning without skipping proper cleansing.
You do not have to use every product from one line. Pay attention to how the hair responds and use what actually makes sense for that wash day.
Mizani 25 Miracle Milk Leave In Conditioner
I like this as a lightweight leave in that gives me slip, helps with detangling and works well before heat styling when I do not want the hair weighed down.
A little can go a long way. Add more only if the hair actually needs it instead of soaking every section in product.
amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave In Conditioner
This is one I like when the hair needs extra moisture and easier manageability after cleansing and conditioning.
Use enough to support the hair without layering so much product that the hair feels coated or heavy.
Design Essentials Honey Crème Detangling Shampoo
I like this when I want cleansing plus some help keeping the hair manageable during wash day. It is especially nice when the hair tends to tangle back up quickly.
Shampoo still needs to reach the scalp. Work in sections when needed instead of piling all of the hair together.
Design Essentials Honey Crème Moisture Retention Masque
I like this when I want a deeper conditioning step and the hair needs more softness and moisture support than a quick rinse out conditioner gives me.
More product and more time are not always better. Follow the directions and pay attention to how the hair feels after rinsing.
Design Essentials Rosemary & Mint Conditioner
This is another conditioner I like when I want good slip and moisture during wash day without automatically reaching for a masque every time.
A regular conditioner and a deep conditioning masque do not have to be used together every wash day.
Kenra Platinum Blow Dry Mist
I use this when I am blow drying and want heat protection plus a lighter product that does not leave the hair feeling overly coated.
Heat protectant helps reduce heat related damage, but temperature, technique and how often heat is used still matter.
Mizani 25 Miracle Nourishing Oil
I like this as a finishing and nourishing oil when I want shine and a little extra softness without making oil the entire moisture routine.
Oil does not replace water based moisture. I use it with intention instead of assuming a dry scalp or dry hair simply needs more oil.
KeraCare Leave In Conditioner
This is a dependable leave in when I want added manageability, softness and support before styling.
Apply based on what the hair needs. Too much leave in can make some hair feel coated instead of moisturized.
Aunt Jackie’s Knot On My Watch Detangler
I like this when I need extra slip to work through tangles and shed hair without turning detangling into a tug of war.
Work in sections and give the product time to help. Slip works best when the detangling technique is gentle too.
The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam
I like this foam for definition and styling when I want hold without reaching for something extremely heavy.
How much you need depends on the style and the hair. Start lighter and build instead of immediately overloading the hair.
Matrix Food For Soft Routine
I like this line when softness and moisture are the priority and I want the wash day products to work together without making the routine complicated.
Softness is useful, but the hair still needs to be properly cleansed and detangled. Moisture does not mean skipping those steps.
Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three
This is my clarifying option when the hair needs a deeper clean and there is buildup that a regular wash routine is not handling well.
This is not the shampoo I would automatically use for every wash day. Clarifying has a purpose and should be followed with the conditioning the hair needs.
Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Routine
I like these products for wash days when I want moisture, manageability and a leave in that helps make the next steps easier.
You can mix and match based on the hair. A full matching line is convenient, but it is not a requirement for a good routine.
Mizani Styling Foam Wrap
I like this foam when I need a lightweight styling product for setting, smoothing or finishing without piling on a heavy cream.
Foam is a styling product, so I still make sure the hair has the moisture and prep it needs before I rely on foam for the finish.
Creme of Nature Argan Oil Strength & Shine Leave In Conditioner
I like this spray leave in when I want an easy layer of conditioning and manageability before moving into the rest of the styling process.
Spray evenly instead of soaking one area. More product is not automatically more moisture.
Creme of Nature Pure Honey Moisturizing Dry Defense Shampoo
I like this as a moisture focused shampoo option when the hair feels dry but still needs to be properly cleansed.
Focus shampoo where cleansing is actually needed and avoid roughing all of the hair together while washing.
Creme of Nature Pure Honey Shrinkage Defense Curl Activator
I like this when I want moisture plus help with curl definition and styling on loose natural hair.
This is a styling product, not a substitute for cleansing, conditioning or detangling.
Start With the Routine, Not the Product.
Products can support a good hair care routine, but they cannot replace one. How often hair is cleansed, how it is detangled, how products are applied, how it is protected at night, how long styles are worn, and how much tension or manipulation the hair experiences can all affect how it looks and behaves.
If you feel like you have tried product after product without getting the result you expected, the next step may not be another purchase. It may be taking a closer look at the routine itself.

Two children can use the same product and have completely different experiences. Strand characteristics, density, styling history, current condition, routine, product use, and the way the hair responds during handling all matter.
During appointments, I pay attention to how your child's hair responds to water, product, detangling, tension, heat, tools, and styling. When more individualized guidance is appropriate, a Hair Care Plan can help turn those observations into a practical home routine.
